Get your apron on for National Cupcake Week if you have got an urge to bake and just ‘knead’ to satisfy that sweet tooth.

Created by British Baker Magazine, the week celebrates cupcakes of every shape and decoration and hopes to get you and I not just eating cupcakes but baking them too!

In 2014 Daniel Addy, Chef Dan’s Cakes was crowned the Professional Overall Winner for his Chocolate and Ameretto Cupcake.  Laura Morris was give the accolade of Home Baker Overall Winner for her Chocolate Banana Fudge Cupcake

If you are a baker selling products to the UK public then you may be eligible to enrol and take part in the national competition – this  phenomena is rising like a well baked sponge cake so keep checking back on the official website to find out everything you knead (ha ha!) to dough (sorry – I couldn’t resist).

Once the simple treat of choice for kids’ birthdays, there are now hundred of recipes and variations – some brides have even had wedding cakes made from towers of cupcakes!

But cupcakes are not just about recipes there is all the paraphernalia that goes with them, cupcake stands, tiered cupcake stands, cupcake wrappers, cupcake caddies and even electric cupcake makers – what more could you need.

And that’s not all, once you’ve baked the cupcake you have to decorate it with an ever expanding selection of cupcake decorations from dusting powders, edible glitter, flowers and coloured sugars – the selection goes on and on – so … it’s up to you how creative you want to be.

You can cook up all kinds of fun events to celebrate this tasty week!

There are loads of ideas to get you in the kitchen at the National Cupcake Week website.  So why not give it a go and bake something special this National Cupcake Week.  You can even send us your recipes and photos and we will feature them on this page.

To celebrate National Cupcake Week 2015 I decided it was time to try my hand at a bit of baking.  So, I dusted off my copy of Mary Berry’s Baking Bible to check out her cupcake recipe – weighing, measuring, mixing and a worrying time watching my creations turn golden brown as they baked in the oven.

Then it was a case of let the fun begin!!  Time to decorate – I have to say my piping skills really need a bit more practice.  And, as I’m not a big fan of butter icing I decided to decorate some of the cupcakes with glace icing instead.  For a first attempt I’m pretty happy with the results!

You’ll have to wait and see what I bake to celebrate National Cupcake Week this yea
