Where would our excuse be for English Wine Week if the Romans had not introduced the vine to Britain nearly 2000 years ago – thank godness they did!
A glass or two from a lovely bottle of wine can put the special touch to an evening with friends or family in the house or at a nice restaurant.
There are more than 400 wineries to chose from in the UK. So where can you purchase our home grown wines – Waitrose is one of the few major retailers in the UK championing our home grown wines.
From Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc to Pinot Noir and Triomphe there are almost 30 British wine varieties growing here right now!
White, red, dry or sweet there’s sure to be the perfect taste somewhere in those English wines to suit every fan out there – now’s the time to find yours!
However, I have to say my favourite tipple has to be champagne – now I know that we can’t call our English sparkling wines by that name – but we really do have some great contenders. Why not try a bottle of Nyetimber’s Classic Cuvee and see for yourself!
Or, if you already know the wines you like it’s always great to try new things. To enjoy some of the best foods with the best wine, find a list of restaurants offering a free glass of wine with each meal and English wine tasting here at the English Wine Week website.
Or if you fancy a tour, arty exhibition and tastings at a vineyard just check out the official website for more information.
And if you can’t make any of that you can always savour a great bottle of wine with some delicious food cooked at home. You deserve to relax!
Cheers!
