Learn how to care
for your back during
Backcare Awareness Week
8-12 October 2018
It’s Backcare Awareness Week from 8-12 October 2018.
The aim of the week long event, which is organised by BackCare, the charity for healthier backs, is to raise awareness of the problems back pain can cause, as well as prevention and treatments. This year the theme will be ‘Back pain in older adults’
One of the messages the organisers of the week will be putting across is that many causes of lower back pain are age related! And, you’ve guessed it – one of the things you can do to ease back pain is by being physically active – this will ensure you’re able to keep doing the things you want to do. You won’t be surprised to hear that being overweight contributes to back pain – being overweight puts pressure on your spine – so, maintaining a healthy weight is essential!
Whatever you do it is very important to make sure that you look after your back. Gentle stretching exercises will help to strengthen an stretch your back muscles. And, who would say ‘no’ to good back massage to soothe and relieve spasms! Meditation can also help you feel relaxed and hopefully you’ll be able to put some of that pain into an imaginary hot air balloon and send it soaring up into the sky!
You can visit the Backcare Shop and order one (or all!) of their information packs, based on back problems found at home, at work and at play. They also have a great selection of back friendly bags to help ensure that you reduce the chance of any potential problems.
It’s thought that four out of every five adults will experience back pain at some point in their life, so why not get an information pack and find out what you can do to prevent it?
